Christmas

This year 4ZB  performed the nativity at St. Stephen's church.  They told us the story of how Mary and Joseph went to Bethlehem where Jesus was born in a stable.  The whole school, accompanied by Nigel sang carols beautifully, as did the choir who sang Oh Holy Night.

The Essence of Christmas - What is Christmas really all about?

In Collective Worship, we thought about what the essence of Christmas is. We thought about the two definitions of  essence - 'a liquid that provides a scent of taste' and 'the most important aspect of something' and focused on the latter.  We looked at things that are linked to Christmas - Christmas decorations, presents and mince pies - and asked ourselves 'Are these the essence (meaning) of Christmas?'

We then reminded ourselves of the nativity story and how it teaches us the essence of Christmas.  it teaches us about love, hope, peace and joy.  we decided that while the Christmas things are special in some way, the true 'essence' is the feeling of fun, excitement, happiness and love and that on Christmas Day, that is what we should remember.

Our Values 'Christmas' Tree

Following on from thinking about the 'essence' of Christmas, each class thought about their hopes and wishes for Christmas and beyond and made baubles for our Values 'Christmas' Tree.
