Learning overview 2

Being an athlete  - Hockey.

This term, we are learning how to play hockey. To start off our lessons, we perfected how to hold a hockey stick correctly and how to keep control of the ball.

Anti-bullying week

As it was anti-bullying week our learning was focused around respect and how we can treat others the way we would like to be treated. We had lots of conversations about what respect is and what it means to us. We then created a mindmap about respect.

Children in need

For children in need we learned about what children in need are and how the money we raised by dressing up in yellow makes a difference to young lives. We celebrated this by designing our own Pudsey bandana and spoke about children who are less fortunate than we are and how we can do our bit to help.

Thrive

For thrive this term, we are looking at how to work well as a team. To kick off the term, we spoke about what makes an effective team and then we put this into practice by creating a contraption that could keep an egg safe from a fall. Sadly, all of our eggs cracked but our teamwork was 'eggcellent'

Being a musician - Hoedown

This term, we have been looking at our song and learning how to keep the beat. We have sung the song, played the song on the glockenspiel and then performed it as a class.

Being a historian/geographer - How did the Ancient Greeks influence the western world?

For our first enquiry lesson we were a combination of both a historian and a geographer as we were using our map skills to locate where Greece in comparison to where we are in the UK. We then looked at where Ancient Greece was and how this differs from the Greece we see today.

Being Historians - Engage - How did the Ancient Greeks influence the western world?

To kick off our new enquiry we tasted a variety of Greek foods. This was a really fun opportunity for us to experience some different food that we may not have tried before including olives, Greek yogurt, flatbread, tzatziki and feta cheese.

Learning overview 1

Being Orators

This week, we have been orators as 6KP collaborated with the us to show off our hard work that we are proud of and want to present to our parents next week during the Oracy Parent's Meetings. We were able to choose one piece of work that we wanted to present to them - this could have been through writing, enquiry, RE or art. Even though they enjoyed having a natter, 6KP were able to explain to us why their work was important to them and we were able to tell them the same back.

National Poetry Day 2024

For national poetry day, we explored many different poems, we created our own verse for an existing poem and we performed poetry independently and as a whole class. We had a great day learning more about poetry and exploring how to express ourselves through words.

Our final task of the day was to learn and perform a poem. In Year 4, our poem was Gran, can you rap? by Jack Ousby.

Being a scientist - Are wolves and humans similar?

For our innovation in enquiry - 'Are Wolves and Humans Similar?' - we practiced our note taking and presenting skills in preparation for our ambition, where we will be recorded answering our enquiry question. We practiced using a familiar topic from Year 3 - How do we live a healthy life?

Being a scientist - Are wolves and humans similar?

In our enquiry this term, 4CW have started exploring different parts of the human body and comparing these with wolves. We have been considering how there are similarities and differences thinking about why these differences are important for the species of animal in relation to Global Goal 15 - Life on Land. Firstly, the children explored the digestive system and how food travels once we have eaten to the point where waste needs to leave the body comparing this to the digestive system of animals such as wolves. The children have also been exploring their teeth. We discovered the different types of teeth and their functions whilst identifying the differences to wolves. This is helping the children understand that based on the type of diet an animal might have, can determine the different types of teeth needed. We have also began to look and different food chains and how they work.

Being an athlete - Gymnastics

In PE this term, the children have made a fantastic start in both gymnastics and netball.

In gymnastics the children have practising balances and combining these in a short sequence to music. The children were encouraged to consider how they can transition from one balance to another in time with the music.

Whilst in netball the children have been developing passing using chest, bounce and overhead passes whilst also growing in confidence when catching the ball by ensuring their bodies and hands are in the right positions.

Being a writer - The Wolves in the Walls

In our writing this term, we have been looking at the picture book - The Wolves in the Walls. We have done lots of work on direct speech and progressive tense and we are now coming to the end of our first writing sequence. We are now writing our own narrative where our own animal is inside the walls.

Being a mathematician - rounding

In maths so far this term, we have been looking at place value, comparing and ordering numbers and rounding. We have done a lot of work on rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000. Here are some pictures of us working together to do some mixed rounding questions.
