Term 4

Enquiry Question: Why are bees important?

This term, we will be exploring all about bees and their importance to us and our day to day lives. We will begin by exploring plants and pollination before we delve deeper into bees and their roles in keeping our planet healthy and alive! Our challenge this term will be to create bee-friendly environments around school alongside  campaign videos to help save the bees!

British Science Week - Article 29: We have the right to an education which develops our talents and abilities.

To kick off British Science Week we had a very exciting visit from Mad Mark! We did lots of different science experiments and learnt so much. We can't wait to learn even more Science in our enquiry topic this term.

 

RE WOW- Article 14 Freedom of thought, belief and religion 

Today we visited St Stephen's Church to kick start our learning all about places of worship. We learnt all about the key features of a church and how these are use daily by Christians during worship.

World Book Day- Article 29 Goals of education 

Today we had a wonderful day which was focused all around books. We came in dressed as a character from our favourite book. We then got to share our book with other children in the class and other children in school. After that, we learnt the poem, The Dragon Who Ate Our School, and we made some actions to go along with it. We then performed our poem to the rest of the school.

Biome Documentaries-Article 13 Freedom of expression

Today we researched all about different biomes on Earth. We the new chose our favourite biome and created a documentary all about it using green screens.

PE: Basketball - Article 24: You have the right to the best health care possible...and information to help you stay well.

We are very lucky this term as we will be having the Bristol Sport Coaches in to teach us how to play Basketball. Today we focused on the different types of passing and the importance of defending. We can't wait to learn more and continue to develop our skills! 

 

WOW Day! - Article 28: You have the right to a good quality education.

Today we were introduced to our new writing topic. We started off by watching the `Bee Movie` and then creating our own bee character using salt dough. After this, we thought about a setting we would like our character to explore just like Barry did in the original film. All of these exciting ideas will be used in our writing over the term. We can't wait to show you our final pieces!  

Science Day! - Article 28: You have the right to a good quality education. 

To begin Term 4, we had a very exciting Science day where we learnt all about plants. Firstly, we identified the key features of a plant and dissected plants to identify the different features. By looking closely at each feature we were able to do some fantastic observational drawing!

We then investigated how water is transported within plants. We used celery and food dye to demonstrate how the stem (in particular the xylem) works.

We have really enjoyed our first day back and can't wait to continue learning more about plants! 

Term 3

This term we will be continuing to focus on Global Goal 6- Clean water and sanitation, along with Article 24- Right to clean water. We will be using the book, The Water Princess- a story of Georgie Badiel and her life in Africa, as inspiration for our writing.

Term 3 Reflections:

"I loved making our water filtration systems because we got to work as a team and present them to our parents" Morgan. 

"I really enjoyed learning about the water cycle. I didn't know the water we drink today could have been a dinosaur's bath!" Rosa.

"I can't believe that there are children in the world who don't have clean water to drink.It s unfair and we must be something!" Henry. 

"I will never take clean water for granted again" Lilia. 

Road Safety Workshop - Article 17: You have the right to get information that is important to your well-being

Today we had a very exciting morning because we had a Road Safety Workshop. We learnt about the importance of wearing a seat belt and how we must always wear a helmet when cycling. 

 

Class Assembly! - Article 13: You have the right to find out things and share
what you think with others. 

Today we have been very lucky because we invited our parents and carers into our class to show them all the amazing work we have produced based around our Global Goal of  `Clean Water and Sanitation`. Our enquiry question this term was `Where does our clean water come from?` In order to answer this question we presented our Water Treatment Centres to our care givers and explained the process of making polluted water clean. 

 

 

Water Treatment Centres - Article 24 You have the right for safe water to drink. 

In Week 5 we have been creating our own Water Treatment Centres to demonstrate the process of water filtration in order to provide safe drinking water. We really enjoyed working as a team and making these together!

 

Safer Internet Day- Article 13: Freedom of Expression

Today is Safer Internet Day and the theme for this year is all about our online identity. We have been learning about how we can keep ourselves safe online whilst almost expressing our views and opinions.

 

 

 

 

 

Musical Theatre Assembly- Article 29 Goals of education 

Today we had a fantastic time watched a brilliant, musical assembly hosted by King's Oak Academy. We couldn't believe how confident the adults were and how many songs we recognised !

Play Pod Relaunch! 

 

Article 31: We have the right to play and rest.

 

Today was very exciting because we were reintroduced to the new Play Pod! We had our `training session` on the equipment which will be available during lunch times. We discussed the benefits of using scrap for play and all engaged in active and imaginative play with the children. 

 

We had lots of fun and can't wait to use this at lunch time! 

Term 2

Where does our 'clean' water come from?

Enquiry Overview: Where does our 'clean' water come from?

This term, we will learning about the Sustainable Development Goals, focusing on Goal 6- Clean Water and Sanitation. We will be considering what makes water 'clean', where water comes from and how clean water is accessed. We will also be exploring the availability of clean water in other areas of the world and think about the rights that we have as children.

Country Music- Article 29 Goals of Education

Today we were lucky enough to have the UK number one Country singer come and perform for us. We couldn't believe how skilled he was, playing a guitar and singing his own song too. We loved listening about how he ended up as a singer and we hope that some of us can be as successful as him one day.

Bristol Sport- Hockey (Article 29- Use and develop our talents and abilities)

Today we were developing our hockey skills. We focussed on passing the ball with speed to a partner and then began developing our shooting skills. We can't wait to continue developing our hockey abilities.

WOW- Water Aid (Article 24- safe water to drink)

Today we had a fantastic talk from Water Aid which helped us learn all about safe water and the availability of water on Earth. We couldn't believe that, although the world isn't made up of 70% water, only 1% of that water is drinkable. We are looking forward to learning more about this and we can't wait to think of some great ways to allow everyone to have the right to safe drinking water.

WOW- Alien Soup

We began our learning today by thinking about what makes our water 'clean'. We were given some 'Alien Soup' and our task was to try and make the water clean enough to drink.

Term 1

Enquiry Overview: What is the place between?

This term, we will be immersing ourselves into a Power of Reading text called "Leon and the Place in Between." We will be following the magical journey of Leon, writing and creating our very own place in between. As well as this we will be role playing, hot seating and freeze framing many characters and scenes from the book. We will be learning how to use noun phrases and commas in a list and inverted commas!

Jigsaw

Today in Jigsaw we were focussing on our problem solving skills. We were given a task to build a tower out of spaghetti. It was very sticky but a great way to focus on out team building skills.

Hockey 

Today we have been working on our hockey skills. We began by passing to our partners before having to apply our skills to dribbling around cones. We loved working on our hockey skills and we can't wait to get even better at it!

Computing and E-safety 

Today we had a great day using the Chromebooks to work on our computing skills. We learnt how to create document, copy, paste and how to keep our passwords safe.

WOW- Magic with Mr T!

To kick start our enquiry based on 'Leon and the Place Between', we had a very special visit from a very magical man- Mr T. He wowed us with some amazing magic tricks which left us extremely excited to begin our new enquiry. As well as this, back in class we learnt all about optical illusions and had a go at creating our own illusions and mini flip books.
