Year 3 Curriculum Map Overview:
Term 6
This term, we will be looking at Global Goal 15, Life On Land to answer our question of 'Humans or Bees: Who is the most influential animal on Earth?'. During this enquiry, we will be becoming scientists, who look at plants and what is needed for them to survive. As well as this, we are going to become technologists in order to build a safe haven for bees to thrive in our school. In writing, we will be looking at the Bee Movie and we will be looking at different tenses. We will be using all of our targets so far to help us write our own versions of the story!
Scooter Training.
This term, we were given some training on how to properly use our scooters. As well as a theory lesson in the classroom where we learned all about how to put a helmet on correctly, check the scooter is safe and learn where to scoot, we also had a practical lesson outside. Even though it was very wet and rainy, it didn't stop us from putting the theory into practice to check over our scooters, test the brakes to stop before we hit Miss Porter and turn corners using the brakes to help us go steady. It was great fun and we thought it was really good to learn how to do this in all weathers!
Term 5
This term, we will be looking at Global Goal 6, Life Below Water to answer our question of 'What is killing sea life?'. During this enquiry, we will be becoming geographers, who look at the ocean and the marine life to see if we can find the answer to our question. As well as this, we are going to become campaigners to persuade people to make a change that will stop our sea life from dying.
Term 4
This term we are continuing on with our enquiry `Where does our clean water come from?`. In this enquiry, we will be geographers who explore rivers, artists who explore the use of water colour and historians who learn all about the Mayans!
Maths Day - All around the world!
Today we had a fantastic day looking at maths around the world. To start the day, we had a look at what 'problem-solving' was and many different ways in which we can solve problems that we didn't know before. One new way we will be trying in 3KP is using the inverse to help us work out the problem backwards.
We were looking at different ways in which they teach maths in Japan. Throughout the day, we looked at 3 different activities. The first one was sudoku, where we had to fill in the missing numbers. This was fun because it was challenging and a bit like a game. It didn't matter how many times we went wrong, we just kept going back and trying again to it right. After this, we did some tangrams, where we were given 7 shapes and we had to create different things, such as letters and a turtle! We really thought this was fun because there were so many different ways we could put them to make different shapes and objects. We could have done this all day and still would have had things to do. Finally, we looked at origami, where as a class, we followed the steps to create a fish! This was the most challenging as it was hard to ensure we folded it all correctly.
Term 3
This term we have finished our enquiry `Can food on its own keep us healthy?` and we have introduced our new enquiry `Where does our clean water come from?`. In this enquiry, we will be scientists who learn all about states of matter and the water cycle, geographers who explored rivers, artists who explore the use of water colour and historians who learn all about the Mayans! Alongside this, our writing will be based on the book `Krindlekrax` by Philip Ridley. Please check our page for updates on our fantastic learning!
Safer Internet day
Today it has been Safer Internet Day where we have focused on how to be respectful whilst online gaming and learning about the types of information it is safe to share online. We started the day by looking at personal and private information and the reasons why it is important not to share private information with strangers online. Then we had an assembly with Mr Stinchcombe, which kicked off out activities for the day. From this, we met a lovely alien from Planet Gnimag who had travelled to Earth in order to learn more about gaming. We had a mission to help guide him through the different issues he might face. We learned all about being respectful, happy and safe online.
Chinese New Year Dance Workshop
Today we had a fantastic time taking part in a Chinese New Year dance workshop. We learnt how to use parasols and even danced with a dragon! We had lots of fun and have enjoyed our time learning all about Chinese New Year!
Maths Day!
In Week 4, we had a fantastic maths day in which we looked at applying our mathematics within the context of animals! We first of all had a brilliant assembly which got us thinking about statistics related to animals and then had a maths workshop which allowed us to practising measuring. We investigated "facts" about the body to see if they were true or not.
When we went back to class we focused on data collection. We explored what a pictogram was and went out a bug hunt outside. We used the data we collected to create our own pictograms in groups.
We have had a brilliant day and cannot wait for our next maths day!
Term 2
This term, we have continued our enquiry `Can food on its own keep us healthy?` We cannot wait to learn more about our skeletons, the food groups and the inspirational Frida Kahlo. Alongside this, we are exploring writing features such as; expanded noun phrases and adverbs using `George's Marvellous Medicine` by Roald Dahl as our key text. Please check our page for updates on our fantastic learning!
Maths Day!
In Week 3, we had a maths day based around space and the solar system! We learnt about right angles and how we can use them to describe direction. We learnt there are 4 right angles turns within a whole turn and practised turning left and right using different amounts of right angle turns. We followed and created directions and then finally created our own space mazes. Can you safely pass through our space mazes?
Term 1
This term we have focused on settling into the Juniors. We have learnt all about what it means to be a `Purple Learner` and began our enquiry `Can food on its own keep us healthy?` In this enquiry, we will be scientists who learn all about animal's skeletons, muscles and the right types and amount of nutrition needed. In addition, we will be artists who explore drawing using inspiration from Frida Kahlo and be farmers as we harvest and cook using produce from our allotment! Alongside this, our writing will be based on the book `George's Marvellous Medicine` by Roald Dahl. Please check our page for updates on our fantastic learning!
Article 13: We have the right to find things out, through making art.
To start being artists this year, we each sketched our own self potraits. Before we did this, we had to draw a picture of ourselves with one continuous line. It was really hard to do this without lifting our pens off the table but we each gave it a shot and we were really happy with the results!
Article 12: We have the right to an opinion.
Election time!
After many of us gave our speeches as to why we would make great Voices of the Change-maker, we all had the opportunity to vote for who we wanted to represent 3KP!
It was a really exciting experience and we enjoyed going into the hall to cast our votes like a real election. It is so nice to know that our opinions matter and our voices are heard! We can't wait for the next one.
Article 13: We have the right to find things out.
Our book this term is 'George's Marvellous Medicine' and to kick off reading the book, we decided it would be fun to create our own marvellous medicines, using ingredients you would NOT want to have in your medicine. We are not sure they would be successful in making anyone feel better, but we sure had fun mixing all the ingredients together and seeing what would happen. It was a blast, except for the fact that we left the classroom with a horrible smell!
Article 31: The right to rest and play.
After being locked away for ages, we were finally allowed to play with our wonderful playpod! The PTA had spent ages clearing it out and re-stocking it with new and exciting junk! Playpod helps us to develop our imaginations and release important energy. Have a look at what we've been doing today.
PE - Article 24: We have the right to be healthy.
This term, we are lucky enough to have the sports coach for our outdoor PE lessons, where we are learning all about football. So far, we have learned how to correctly pass the ball to our partners, where we keep and eye on the ball so we can aim it in the correct direction. Did you know, when you pass the ball, you need to use the inside of your foot? As well as this, we have been using our pengiun feet to dribble the ball and keep control of it. Have a look at the pictures below to see what we have been up to.
