Year 4 have ​​​​​indoor PE on a Monday and outdoor PE on a Wednesday.

Drop off and collection is at the front of the school by Reception.

Term 2

Year 4 Termly overview 2

In term 2, Year 4 looking at the enquiry 'How did the Ancient Greeks influence the Western World?'. We will be using the myth of Theseus and the Minotaur to help us in our writing.

 

In order to answer our enquiry question, we will be looking at democracy, the Olympics, architecture and different Greek Gods.

Being Historians

In Term 2 we will become young historians as we explore the fascinating world of the Ancient Greeks To help answer our key question When were the Ancient Greeks we worked in groups to investigate and plot important events on a timeline We also practised our oracy skills by listening to each other and politely agreeing or disagreeing to decide the correct order of events It has been a great way to think like historians and bring the past to life

Being a Technologist 

In Term 2, we will be diving into the exciting world of podcasts! Throughout the term, we’ll explore a range of different podcasts to discover what makes them engaging, informative, and fun to listen to. We’ll also be learning how to record high-quality sound, experimenting with different audio techniques, and developing our oracy skills as we practise speaking clearly, confidently, and expressively. By the end of the unit, everyone will have the chance to create their very own podcast episode on a topic they’re passionate about. It’s going to be a fantastic opportunity to be creative, share ideas, and build a brilliant set of digital and communication skills!

Being a writer 

 

For our immersion into our new class text 'Theseus and the Minotaur', we made our very own labyrinth. We used the equipment in the PE cupboard to create a maze with obstacles and dead ends. We then tried to find our way out of the maze. 

Term 1

Year 4 Termly Overview 1

Year 4 are kick starting the year with an incredible enquiry looking into the similarities and difference between humans and wolves. We will be using the books 'Wolves in the Walls' to help us introduce targets into our writing to make it engaging for our readers. 

 

In order to answer our enquiry question of 'Are wolves and humans similar?', we will be exploring the digestive system, teeth and food chains.

Being a Scientist - Ambition

To answer our questions 'Are Wolves and Humans the same?', we created wonderful presentations to display our understanding. We were being a technologists by creating attractive and well laid out presentations. We used our fantastic oracy skills to present these infront of our class. 

Being Readers

Every Wednesday, the children have the opportunity to visit the school library. During this time, they can choose a chapter book to enjoy during their reading for pleasure slot. After selecting a book, they bring it back to class to read and share.

As a class, we are also enjoying getting lost in our shared book, Who Let the Gods Out? — the perfect story to enjoy together while getting comfy and absorbed in the adventure.

Trip - Bristol Zoo Project

Year 4 had the pleasure of going to Bristol Zoo Project were we began our enquiry "Are humans and wolves similar?" We were able to explore the site and take part in a Wild About Wolves workshop. The children came away full of excitement and knowledge about wolves and other fascinating facts about animals living at the zoo.
