As part of this writing unit, we will be writing diary entries which include many new targets such as fronted adverbials of time and place.

Alongside our writing, we will exploring a new enquiry 'What is beneath our feet?' In this enquiry, we will be scientists and geographers by exploring many things such as types of rock. Please check our page often so see our fantastic learning!

Engage - Being Engineers!

This afternoon, we had a great time taking part in our 'engage' activity which set us the task of building structures which would survive an earthquake. We worked well in teams to get the bases of these built and we will continue to work on these next week.

This term, we will be continuing to explore our enquiry 'How we do we live a healthy life?'. Within this enquiry, we will be scientists exploring the food groups and the importance of understanding the nutrition food brings to the body. We will also be engineers and make a nutrious meal incorporating all of the food groups. Moving on from this, we will be starting our new enquiry- What is underneath our feet? Within this enquiry, we will be geographers- learning about the formation of volcanoes, tectonic plates and the different rock formation.

Alongside this enquiry, we will be exploring our new class book, Krindlekrax. This is a thriller book all about a mysterious creature living underground in Lizard Street. As part of this book, we will be writing a non-chronological report about Krindlekrax. We will then be completing a diary entry based around the book- Stranded.

Pizza making - Being Engineers!

This afternoon, we used our plans to create some delicious pizzas with a variety of toppings. We thought carefully about what makes a healthy pizza and some of us even added huge amount of vegetables!

Pizza testing - Being Engineers!

This morning, we tried out some different flavoured pizzas as part of some market research. We thought about the texture, taste, appearance, aroma and general appeal of the pizzas. We then used this to help us finish our final plans.

Non-Chronological reports- Being Writers!

This week, we have been working hard on our non-chronological reports to finish our unit of writing. We are so proud of them and we think that they showcase all of our fantastic new writing skills as well as our understanding of the cruel and evil Krindlekrax!

After that, we will be jumping into our second enquiry, answering our enquiry question- 'How do we live a healthy life?'

Within this enquiry, we will be scientists exploring the food groups and the importance of understanding the nutrition food brings to the body. We will also be engineers and make a nutrious meal incorporating all of the food groups.

We will continue reading our book 'Georges marvellous medicine' and use this to introduce targets into our writing to make it engaging for our readers.

Being Writers - Instructions

Today, we explored our new text type - intstructions. We had to tell Mrs Edwards how to make a jam sandwich and we realised how messy this can be if there are not clear instructions. We then had to follow a bad set and a good set of instructions to make a paper plane, We thought about what makes successful instructions.

Being Historians- Engage

To kick start our learning about our new enquiry- what can we learn from how the stone, bronze and iron ages lived? we tried out three stone age activities. We learnt how to weave using a small loom and paper strips, went outside into the secret forest and made shelters out of natural materials and handled flint whilst guessing what they could have been used for during the stone, bronze and iron ages. We can't wait to find out more about this time period and how these people used to live!
