Term 1

This term, Year 6 are going to be looking at the enquiry 'What have the Victorians taught us about working life?'.

Through this enquiry, we will be looking at two Global Goals: Goal 8 - Decent work and economic growth and Goal 10 - Reduced inequalities. Throughout the enquiry, we will be focusing on developing our skills are historians. As well as this, we are going to be immersing ourselves in the book Cogheart, using this to enhance our writing and to further immerse ourselves into the Victorian era.

Orator

Today we have shared our peices of work with our Year 3 Buddies. This is in preparation for our oracy afternoon with parents and carers. We enjoyed sharing the work that we are most proud of and using presentational talk

Being writers:

For National Poetry Day 2025, we learned about and created a shared class 'silly sentence' poem. We thought about the silliest verbs, nouns and adjectives that we could combine and had fun deciding which was the most full of nonsense. Together, we created individual poems (some have been shown in the pictures); we also asked AI to create some of the sentences as pictures!

Being explorers

We love not only being in charge of the play pod but also letting our imaginations run wild and transforming into pirates, captains and war heroes. It’s great to let our hair down and have fun with our friends.

Being historians.

In order to engage ourselves in our new enquiry, we spent some time playing Victorian games and looking through Victorian adverts to compare how they are different from the games and adverts we see and use today. To start, we played some games, including pass the slipper and Reverend Crawley's game. When we were playing them, we realised that some of them were quite similar to modern games that we play. For example, pass the slipper is very similar to pass the parcel, and lookabout was close to hide and seek. After, we looked at some adverts from that era. One advert was for cleaning carpets and another was for the National Skating Palace. There was even a poster for children's reins and the all new gas fires! It was exciting and fun to play the games and have a look at what life was like back then!

Buddies

Today we got to know our year 3 Buddy better.  We asked and answered questions, making sure we listened attentively and responded appropriately.

Throughout the year, we will be spending time supporting them with the St Stephen’s Junior way of life.
