Being a geographer

In our final enquiry, we have been looking at how palm oil impacts our planet. We have produced some amazing work!!

4cw

Being an athlete

In PE this term, we are using the play pod equipment to set up and play our own games. We are free to use our imagination and set things up using the equipment available.

4cw

Being a geographer

To start our fieldwork fortnight, we did some research of the local area. We looked at maps to see what the area looks like now and compared this to an old map. We discussed how the area is more built up now with more houses, buildings and roads and less green spaces.

4cw

Being an athlete

After a action packed day with sports day, we enjoyed a nice, refreshing ice-lolly in the sun!

4cw

Being a scientist

Following on from our previous lesson, we have started to create classification keys. We practiced using liquorice sweets before moving on to making a key for the 6 animal groups.

4cw

Being a scientist

To start our new enquiry we began to classify animals. We began by sorting images and plastic animals into potential groups. We then learned the 6 main animal groups and carried out some research. Finally, we created some fantastic posters to showcase our learning.

4cw

Being a scientist

For our enquiry we are looking at 'what is energy?' We investigated with circuits to see what components are needed to create a complete and working circuit. We then introduced the use of a switch using a paper clip and explained what causes the circuit to work or not.

4cw

Being a writer

We are looking at our new text in writing, there's an orangutan in my bedroom. We picked out the important features that should be included in a narrative and discussed why they are important.

4cw

Being a scientist

We have kicked off our new enquiry 'what is sound and energy?' To start, we made a sound journey using the musical instruments. We then learned that sound are vibrations and investigated what this looked like by using drums and rice. Finally, we went outside and did an experiment to see the effects of distance on how well we can hear sounds which allowed us to understand how sound waves travel.

4cw

Being an athlete

To kick off term 5 we have started our cricket unit. We started by practicing our bowling technique and then we practiced batting off a cone into a coned off area.

4cw

Being an engineer

For our DT project this term we made Roman money bags.

4cw

Being an Orator

As we are coming towards the end of another term, we had an opportunity to share the work we are most proud of with 6KP. We do this so that we have an opportunity to practice our oracy skills and to share our work with somebody different. This is in preparation for our oracy parent meetings.

4cw

Being a historian

On our school we visited Caerleon, a Roman fortress, as part of our enquiry. We looked at an old amphitheatre, barracks, baths and a museum.

4cw

Being a technologist

In our computing lessons this, term we have been editing photos. We have looked at how to edit the colour, size, crop and merge picture together. Our task at the end of our last lesson was to make an axolotl-dragon, here is what we made.

4cw

Being a historian

For our new enquiry on the Romans, we have started to look at how the Roman Empire began. In our most recent lesson, we looked at how and when the Romans invaded Britain. We made Roman shields and reenacted the many attempts from the Romans to invade Britain until they were finally successful in 42AD.

4cw

World book day!

For world book day, we took part in lots of different book related activities. We designed our own class hero (The Shadow King), we played book character top trumps, we made our own graphic novel and took part in a book quiz!! Take a look at our fun packed day!

4cw

What is the journey of a raindrop? Ambition

For our ambition we shared our DT and writing outcomes to the Year 5s in 5JW. We really enjoyed sharing our work and explaining what we learned.

4cw

Being a theologian

For our new RE topic, we are looking at the question 'Why do we call the day Jesus died Good Friday?'

To start, we looked at the story of how Judas betrayed Jesus and why. We did a conscience alley where one half of the class were convincing Judas to betray Jesus and the other were convincing him not to.

Learning overview 3

4cw

Being an artist

As it is Chinese New Year, we did some art inspired by a blossom tree. We had to use straws to blow the paint to create the branches and then we had to splatter on the blossoms.

4cw

Being a geographer

Continuing with our work on the journey of a raindrop, we have started to look at the different parts of a river. We kicked off the lesson by creating our own rivers and trying to label the different parts.

4cw

Being an artist

We finished our paper mache vases by popping the balloons and painting them with different patterns. Check out our final products!

4cw

Being a geographer and scientist

We have been looking at the water cycle and how water moves around the Earth. To remember each step we have been learning a song!

Thrive

For our thrive session this week we were working on our communication and teamwork skills. We had to make our way across the court without hitting any cones, hula-hoops or other children, all with our eyes closed. We had to listen carefully to our partner and we had to ensure we were giving clear calm instructions.

4cw

Being a scientist - What is the journey of a raindrop?

For our new enquiry we have started to look at states of matter. We looked at a range of different objects and tried to group them based on the qualities of a solid, liquid or a gas. We then looked at how the particles in each state move around and we acted this out.

4cw

Learning overview 2

4cw

Being an artist - Paper mache

We have been planning and designing our vases all term in art and we have finally began constructing our Greek vases out of paper mache.

4cw

Being a historian - How did the ancient Greeks influence the western world?

In our enquiry we have been learning about the ancient Olympics and comparing it to the modern Olympics. In ancient Greek Olympics the first event was the 192m footrace. We went outside and had our own mini Olympics.

4cw

Being an athlete  - Hockey.

This term, we are learning how to play hockey. To start off our lessons, we perfected how to hold a hockey stick correctly and how to keep control of the ball.

4cw

Anti-bullying week

As it was anti-bullying week our learning was focused around respect and how we can treat others the way we would like to be treated. We had lots of conversations about what respect is and what it means to us. We then created a mindmap about respect.

4cw

Children in need

For children in need we learned about what children in need are and how the money we raised by dressing up in yellow makes a difference to young lives. We celebrated this by designing our own Pudsey bandana and spoke about children who are less fortunate than we are and how we can do our bit to help.

4cw

Thrive

For thrive this term, we are looking at how to work well as a team. To kick off the term, we spoke about what makes an effective team and then we put this into practice by creating a contraption that could keep an egg safe from a fall. Sadly, all of our eggs cracked but our teamwork was 'eggcellent'

4cw

Being a musician - Hoedown

This term, we have been looking at our song and learning how to keep the beat. We have sung the song, played the song on the glockenspiel and then performed it as a class.

Being a historian/geographer - How did the Ancient Greeks influence the western world?

For our first enquiry lesson we were a combination of both a historian and a geographer as we were using our map skills to locate where Greece in comparison to where we are in the UK. We then looked at where Ancient Greece was and how this differs from the Greece we see today.

4cw

Being Historians - Engage - How did the Ancient Greeks influence the western world?

To kick off our new enquiry we tasted a variety of Greek foods. This was a really fun opportunity for us to experience some different food that we may not have tried before including olives, Greek yogurt, flatbread, tzatziki and feta cheese.

Being Orators

This week, we have been orators as 6KP collaborated with the us to show off our hard work that we are proud of and want to present to our parents next week during the Oracy Parent's Meetings. We were able to choose one piece of work that we wanted to present to them - this could have been through writing, enquiry, RE or art. Even though they enjoyed having a natter, 6KP were able to explain to us why their work was important to them and we were able to tell them the same back.

National Poetry Day 2024

For national poetry day, we explored many different poems, we created our own verse for an existing poem and we performed poetry independently and as a whole class. We had a great day learning more about poetry and exploring how to express ourselves through words.

Our final task of the day was to learn and perform a poem. In Year 4, our poem was Gran, can you rap? by Jack Ousby.

Being a scientist - Are wolves and humans similar?

For our innovation in enquiry - 'Are Wolves and Humans Similar?' - we practiced our note taking and presenting skills in preparation for our ambition, where we will be recorded answering our enquiry question. We practiced using a familiar topic from Year 3 - How do we live a healthy life?

4cw

Being a scientist - Are wolves and humans similar?

In our enquiry this term, 4CW have started exploring different parts of the human body and comparing these with wolves. We have been considering how there are similarities and differences thinking about why these differences are important for the species of animal in relation to Global Goal 15 - Life on Land. Firstly, the children explored the digestive system and how food travels once we have eaten to the point where waste needs to leave the body comparing this to the digestive system of animals such as wolves. The children have also been exploring their teeth. We discovered the different types of teeth and their functions whilst identifying the differences to wolves. This is helping the children understand that based on the type of diet an animal might have, can determine the different types of teeth needed. We have also began to look and different food chains and how they work.

4cw

Being an athlete - Gymnastics

In PE this term, the children have made a fantastic start in both gymnastics and netball.

In gymnastics the children have practising balances and combining these in a short sequence to music. The children were encouraged to consider how they can transition from one balance to another in time with the music.

Whilst in netball the children have been developing passing using chest, bounce and overhead passes whilst also growing in confidence when catching the ball by ensuring their bodies and hands are in the right positions.

4cw

Being a writer - The Wolves in the Walls

In our writing this term, we have been looking at the picture book - The Wolves in the Walls. We have done lots of work on direct speech and progressive tense and we are now coming to the end of our first writing sequence. We are now writing our own narrative where our own animal is inside the walls.

4cw

Being a mathematician - rounding

In maths so far this term, we have been looking at place value, comparing and ordering numbers and rounding. We have done a lot of work on rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000. Here are some pictures of us working together to do some mixed rounding questions.
