In Term 5 we will be continuing our exciting enquiry to answer the question, "What did the Ancient Egyptians believe?" Our learning journey will take us deeper into the fascinating world of Ancient Egypt as we explore mummification, pharaohs, and even create our own canopic jars! This term, we will also be using the story of Egyptian Cinderella as our class text, linking our reading and writing to the rich culture and traditions of Ancient Egypt. Our work continues to connect with Global Goal 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, encouraging thoughtful discussion and reflection. Through engaging writing activities inspired by the text, we will build on our skills and develop our creativity. We’re so excited to share our learning adventures with you—keep an eye on our page for updates!
Term 4
We are kicking off Term 4 by diving into our enquiry to answer the question, "What do the Ancient Egyptians believe?" This exciting journey will see us become historians as we explore mummification, pharaohs, and even create our own canopic jars! Our learning will also link to the Global Goal 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions. Alongside this, we will continue reading Krindlekrax by Philip Ridley, uncovering more about its fascinating characters and storyline. In writing, we will build on our skills and develop our creativity through engaging activities. We can’t wait to share our incredible learning adventures with you—keep an eye on our page for updates
Being athletes
This term, we have been learning how to play handball. To start with, we began learning how to throw the ball correctly. We learned two different ways to throw the ball correctly: 'over-head pass' and 'bounce pass'. We then put these skills to practice into a game. We really enjoyed playing the game and it also tested our listening skills.
Being historians
To engage us in our new enquiry "What did the ancient Egyptians believe?" we had a go at writing our names in hieroglyths, as well as creating our own tiny pyramids. We really enjoyed working out which characters we we would need to use and were pretty pleased with the way our names looked!
Being Scientists
After our amazing trip to We The Curious at the end of last time, we have continued exploring forces. To delve into the world of forces, we experimented with magnets. We tested to see which materials were attracted to magnets and which ones repelled. We also felt the magnetic force field of the magnets when we looked at the North and South poles. Particularly when we tried to push two of the same poles together. We can't wait to find out more about forces!
Term 3
We are kicking off this term by diving into our enquiry to answer the question, "What is beneath our feet?" This exciting journey will see us become geographers and scientists as we explore the layers of the Earth, rocks, and tectonic plates. Alongside this, we are continuing our exploration of writing features with George's Marvellous Medicine by Roald Dahl and introducing a new class text, Krindlekrax by Philip Ridley. We can’t wait to discover how these stories will inspire our creativity! Please check our page for updates on our incredible learning adventures.
School trip to We The Curious
For our engage for our new enquiry “What is a force?”, we took a trip to We the Curious. We were able to explore all of the incredible, interactive exhibits and learnt loads along the way. We ended our day with a workshop on forces. We learnt about the forces: push, pull and twist. We also learnt about friction. We investigated what surfaces would help speed a car along a ramp, and which would slow its progress.
Being artists
This week we learnt about Chinese New Year and how 2025 is the year of the snake. We decided to have a go at making our own snake designs into printing blocks using card and string, it was tricky at first but we got the hang of it! We look forward to adding the paint and making our prints.
Being scientists
As part of our enquiry "What is underneath our feet?", this week we were 'rock detectives'. We examined different rocks and ran tests to check the density and permeabilty of different rock types. We loved seeing how many different types of rock there are and enjoyed marveling at the unusual and sparkly ones!
Thrive
This week during our Thrive session, we created our own personality island. This idea came from the film 'Inside Out'. As a class, we spoke about the things that make us who we are. We came up with a class list and it was so interesting to see the different things that makes everyone in the class special and unique. We then started to draw our own personality islands. We are looking forward to finishing them in our next Thrive session.
Being technologists
After practicing the skill of making a physical flip book, this week we have been honing our technologist skills by creating our own digital animations using the Brush Ninja program. We have been really enjoying using our chromebooks to tell short stories in this way.
Being a Geographer...
We’ve begun our exciting enquiry, “What is beneath our feet?” with a fun challenge to build a tower that could withstand an earthquake using only paper, cardboard, sticks, and cellotape. Working together, we explored creative designs and tested our towers with simulated earthquakes to see how well they held up. It was a fantastic way to develop our teamwork and problem-solving skills.
Term 2
We are kicking off this term by beginning our enquiry to answer the question `How do we live a healthy lifestyle?` which links to Global Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being. We cannot wait to learn more about our skeletons, the food groups and how this keeps our bodies and minds healthy. Alongside this, we are continuing to explore writing features such as; adverbs using `George's Marvellous Medicine` by Roald Dahl as our key text. We will also be cooking up a storm and preparing a healthy meal using instructions we have written! Please check our page for updates on our fantastic learning!
Being scientists
This week we set about trying to find out if there is a relationship between the length of our femurs and how far we can jump. We thought lots about what makes a fair test and how we can best analyse the results we recorded.
Being an athlete
This term 3CR have been put on their dancing shoes. Our inspiration for our dance has been from different circus acts. This week we looked at a tightrope walker. We thought about height, balance and posture. We performed our dance to the class.
Being scientists and engineers
3CR have been enjoying being scientists and engineers this week, doing some market research on what makes different foods appealing, ahead of designing their own dishes.
Whilst learning about the different food groups, and what good they do for our bodies, they have loved trying different fruits, vegetables and pizzas. They have been thinking about how taste, texture, smell and appearance all affect our enjoyment of food.
Term 1
Year 3 are kick starting the year with an incredible enquiry into the lives of people living in the Stone Age to the Iron Age. We will be using the books 'The Stone Age Boy' to help us introduce targets into our writing to make it engaging for our readers.
In order to answer our enquiry question of 'What can we learn from Stone Age, Bronze Age, Iron Age?', we will be explore what life was like for people living throughout these years to compare what was the same and what changed.
Keep checking out our webpage to see all of our fabulous work and find our the answer to our enquiry question!
Being an artist
This week 3CR have been using our sketchbooks to develop our artistic skills, using multi-media to create our masterpieces. We painted our interpretations of Pablo Picasso's The Bull and used oil pastels to design cave paintings. We absolutely loved using different grades of sketching pencils to draw our self portraits, learning about how to draw face dimensions accurately.
Being a poet
We loved celebrating National Poetry Day this week by learning all about poetry. We We had a go at writing our own poems about animals and learned to recite a poem as a class to perform for an audience of our parents and carers. We used our oracy skills to enhance our delivery, trying out performance techniques such as projecting our voices and using actions to help us remember our lines.
Being a Historian
We started our enquiry 'What can we learn from the Stone, Bronze and Iron Age?' by doing a range of different Stone, Bronze and Iron Age activities. We carved soap to make flints for spearheads, painted with natural resources such as berries, made Stone Age shelters, tried weaving and looked at replicas of Stone Age flints. This has made us excited for everything there is to learn about the Stone, Bronze and Iron ages!
