Term 5 

 

In Term 5  we will be continuing our exciting enquiry to answer the question, "What did the Ancient Egyptians believe?" Our learning journey will take us deeper into the fascinating world of Ancient Egypt as we explore mummification, pharaohs, and even create our own canopic jars! This term, we will also be using the story of Egyptian Cinderella as our class text, linking our reading and writing to the rich culture and traditions of Ancient Egypt. Our work continues to connect with Global Goal 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, encouraging thoughtful discussion and reflection. Through engaging writing activities inspired by the text, we will build on our skills and develop our creativity. Year 3 Learning Overview 5

Being an Artist 

 

After learning about Canopic Jars and their uses, we created our own out of clay. Firstly, we made pinch pots by rolling our clay into balls and then pinching and stretching the clay to make what looked like a cup. We then turned it over and added the animal features using the clay technique of scoring and securing with slip. Each canopic jar had the head of a different god, whose job it was to protect the organs when the Pharaoh went to the afterlife.

 

 

Term 4

 

We are kicking off Term 4 by diving into our enquiry to answer the question, "What do the Ancient Egyptians believe?" This exciting journey will see us become historians as we explore mummification, pharaohs, and even create our own canopic jars! Our learning will also link to the Global Goal 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.  Alongside this, we will continue reading Krindlekrax by Philip Ridley, uncovering more about its fascinating characters and storyline. In writing, we will build on our skills and develop our creativity through engaging activities. We can’t wait to share our incredible learning adventures with you—keep an eye on our page for updates!

Dogs Trust Visit

 

This week, we had the privilege of having a special visitor from Dogs Trust into our class to teach us all about dog behaviours. We had a great time learning about the different behaviour shown by our 'doggy best friends' and what each of these expressions mean. We were able to demonstrate our fantastic oracy skills to Helen through different games, activities and role play exercises to help us understand how we can treat our dogs in the best way for them. Thank you Dogs Trust! 

Being an Orator

 

To prepare for our open classrooms, we practiced our oracy by sharing a chosen piece of work with Year 5. We paired up with a member of 5SW and discussed using our oracy stem sentences why we had chosen that particular piece of work, what were the challenges and why we were proud of it. We then swapped and we heard all about the Year 5's work which we really enjoyed.

Being a Computer Technologist

 

This term, we have been learning about branching databases. We have had a lot of fun creating our own branching databases sorting animals. First, we looked at yes and no questions and then we learnt about what an attribute is. Once we learnt about attributes we made yes and no questions based upon those attributes to sort a wide range of animals.

Red Nose Day

 

This year for Red Nose Day it was 40 years of funny. To celebrate this, we came dressed in 80's outfits or in red to represent the red nose. We also had a 'joke off' in class to choose the best two jokes to tell in collective worship, alongside trying not to laugh at lots of other jokes in a video. In class, we had a game of pin the nose on the teacher and we designed our own red noses.

Term 3

We are kicking off this term by diving into our enquiry to answer the question, "What is beneath our feet?" This exciting journey will see us become geographers and scientists as we explore the layers of the Earth, rocks, and tectonic plates. Alongside this, we are continuing our exploration of writing features with George's Marvellous Medicine by Roald Dahl and introducing a new class text, Krindlekrax by Philip Ridley. Year 3 Learning Overview 3

Being a Scientist

 

To kick off our understanding of forces when being a scientist, Year 3 went on a trip to 'We the Curious.' We started our day exploring the different exhibitions and hands on activities, including making giant bubbles, creating animations and exploring a crazy sloped room! We then had the opportunity to take part in a workshop learning all about forces. We started off learing about push and pull with a great demonstration of a working cart and then we learnt about how magnets work. Finally we conducted our own experiment finding out which material would create  the most friction going down a slope. We had the best time and we have learnt lots!

Being a Geographer

 

We have been learning about volcanoes and where they are in the world. We learnt all about the ring of fire and the different types of volcanoes there are. We learnt that they can even be underwater!
We then had a go at making our own safer volcanic eruption in class. We learnt about how volcanoes have magma chambers and that magma is pushed through the vent until it comes out of the crater at the top as lava alongside gas, rocks and ash clouds.

Thrive 

 

In our thrive sessions we have been focussing on 'meet the expert'. We have brought in items from home to share with the class, this has included; favourite toys, running medals and cuddly toys. It has been lovely to share what we know with the rest of the class and answer many questions! We have even taught Miss Nicholas lots of new things!

Being Geographers 

 

We started our new enquiry with a bang and a rumble. Our new enquiry is based around what is beneath our feet and part of our learning is all about earthquakes. For our engage, we discussed what earthquakes were, what happens during and finally how earthquake proof buildings are made. We then had a go at designing and making a building out of limited resources that would withstand an earthquake. We tested these buildings out by creating our own mini earthquakes in the classroom!

Term 2

 

 

We are kicking off this term by beginning our enquiry to answer the question `How do we live a healthy lifestyle?` which links to Global Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being. We cannot wait to learn more about our skeletons, the food groups and how this keeps our bodies and minds healthy. Alongside this, we are continuing to explore writing features such as; adverbs using `George's Marvellous Medicine` by Roald Dahl as our key text. We will also be cooking up a storm and preparing a healthy meal using instructions we have written! Please check our page for updates on our fantastic learning!

Being Scientists

 

We have been completing a science investigation this week. We were investigating whether the length of your femur affects how far you can jump. We started off by discussing what would make it a fair test and our predictions. Then we measured our femurs in groups and got jumping. Each group had a different result so it is currently inconclusive in 3HN whether the longer the femur, the longer the jump.

Being Engineers

 

We took part in our own market research for our new enquiry by taste testing a range of pizzas. We will be making our own healthy pizza incorporating our understanding of a balanced diet. We loved trying the pizzas and deciding what was appealing to us and others. The favourite of the class was either the super cheesy margherita or the pepperoni! Not so popular was the veggie packed one! We can't wait to make our own pizzas very soon.

Term 1

Year 3 are kick starting the year with an incredible enquiry into the lives of people living in the Stone Age to the Iron Age. We will be using the books 'The Stone Age Boy' to help us introduce targets into our writing to make it engaging for our readers. 

 

In order to answer our enquiry question of 'What can we learn from Stone Age, Bronze Age, Iron Age?', we will be explore what life was like for people living throughout these years to compare what was the same and what changed.

Being an artist 

 

We became mini Picasso's when we recreated versions of his famous bull print. First, we looked at the art work and decided what we could see, what we liked and didn't like. Then, we learned about the artist- Pablo Picasso and his inspiration taken from the Lascaux cave paintings in France. Finally, we used our observational painting skills to recreate our version of the famous art work.

Being a poet

 

We loved celebrating National Poetry Day this week by learning all about poetry. We We had a go at writing our own poems about animals and learned to recite a poem as a class to perform for an audience of our parents and carers. We used our oracy skills to enhance our delivery, trying out performance techniques such as projecting our voices and using actions to help us remember our lines.

Being a Historian 

 

We started our enquiry 'What can we learn from the Stone, Bronze and Iron Age?' by doing a range of different Stone, Bronze and Iron Age activities. We carved soap to make flints for spearheads, painted with natural resources such as berries, made Stone Age shelters, tried weaving and looked at replicas of Stone Age flints. This has made us excited for everything there is to learn about the Stone, Bronze and Iron ages!
