Term 1

This term, in our enquiry we will be learning about what happens when we get older. We will be delving into the life cycle of different plants and animals, looking at reproduction and gestation periods. In writing, we will be looking at the book 'The Tunnel by Anthony Browne' and writing a setting description and a formal discussion based on this picture book. In reading, we are exploring the book 'Floodland by Marcus Sedwick'

Being geographers:

To begin our next Enquiry - Why are some children prevented from going to school? - we explored different flags and made guesses about which country they belonged to. Some were more straightforward than others! We then explored some Atlases and tried to find those same countries and pinpoint where in the world they are.

Being technologists:

Last week, we had the opportunity to learn about and create some bread rolls to celebrate Harvest time. We learnt about food hygiene, kitchen safety, how yeast works, bread recipes and put this into action by creating our own bread rolls. We then donated some of these to the local care home and we were able to try some the next day - they were actually quite tasty!

Being Writers:

To immerse ourselves into our second unit on a discussion piece of writing, the class carried out a "conscience alley". Half the class had to convince Rose that she should go through the tunnel and the other half were against. They shared their opinions with her as she walked down the alley.
