World Book Day!
It is that time of year again, where we get to come together to celebrate books! We all had a blast, dressing up as our book heroes and working together as a class to design our own class hero! We then created comic books using our class hero as the main character! As well as this, we had a character battle, where we created a top trumps style card for our heroes and battled between ourselves to find the best hero! To top it off, we had an author come in to talk to us all about her books! What an incredible day!
Being Writers
This week, we immersed ourselves into our new writing book - The Promise. This book is all about a girl who made a promise to plant acorns after stealing them from an old lady. We spoke about the moral of the story being that kindness can grow and also that we should be working together to make the world a better place. What started as a mean and hard and ugly city, ended up the complete opposite because of this! To really get ourselves engaged in the book and to understand the characters better, we role played the story with each person in our group taking on a different role: the girl, the grandma, the community or the narrator.

Being Artists:
This week, in Year 6, we have been learning about the Lunar New Year and particularly Willow Patterns. Because of this, as part of an Art lesson, the children learnt about and then designed a Willow Pattern Tile. This was all about some star-crossed lovers and how the pattern represented this story - how perfect for Valentines Day! Here are some examples of their work:
Avon and Somerset Fire and Rescue
This week, Year 6 were lucky enough to start off with a visit from Avon and Somerset Fire and Rescue. Building on from our trip to Life skills, they came in to teach us fire and water safety. We had a range of different scenarios to work through as a group and then we went through the answers to check our understanding. It was very thought-provoking and we all left feeling like we knew a little more on how to keep ourselves safe.

Being historians,,,,
This week, we put on our inspector boots! We were looking at the Factory Act 1833 and what it entailed. Looking through what was expected of factories in response to this act, we then went round the classroom, analysing at the factories we drew last week and inspecting them. Once we had done this, we wrote our own inspection reports, outlining all the ways in which the factories had failed to live up to expectations. We even decided what the punishment was going to be.

Being a historian
This week we have been preparing our Ambition ready to present to parents/carers. The children have been working hard in teams to produce a presentation to talk their audience through the many medical and scientific discoveries that have happened through history from 1700 to the present day.
Being a writer - National Poetry Day!
This week, we were excited to step away from our normal daily routine to immerse ourselves into the world of poetry. We started by creating our own rhymes and then we went on to explore a range of poetry books. One book we focused on in particular was Poems Aloud by Joseph Coelho. We then used one of his poems 'The bones of Pampachiri' as inspiration for our own poems about different places. In the afternoon, we rehearsed and recited a poem ready for all of our parents to see.
Being a Historian
This week, in 6BB, we have been historians by researching the gruesome Black Death. We found out what it was, where it came from, what were the symptoms people got and what kind of preventative measures people took to try and get rid of it! We then created our own informational posters.
