Term 4
This term in enquiry, the children have been looking at the Romans and how they took control of the UK. As a class they reenacted the events surrounding the failed invasions by Emperor Caesar and the successful invasion by Claudius. They had a great time!
This year's theme for world book say was reading heroes. The children came to school in some fantastic outfits!
The children also had a chance to select some of their favourite reading characters and battle it out with other members of the class and their favourite characters! They looked at features such as strength and height to rank their characters.
They also had a go devising and designing a class exclusive superhero and designing a comic based on that character.
This term in art the children have continued to explore the theme of water in their work.
We began by looking at the details a wave would entail (shape, line, tones and patterns) and used this knowledge to create a sketch of a wave.
Term 3
DT
DT has been of great interest to the children this term where we have looked at the uses linkages and levers.
The children have been planning to use their knowledge of linkages and levers to create a moving poster to explain the water cycle.
We have begun the process of making their product by experimenting with some of the linkages and lever mechanisms they wanted to use in their posters.
They were able to use their planned linkages and levers to produce fantastic posters!
This term in PE, the children have been looking at the skills needed in football. A key skill of focus has been accurate passing using the correct technique.
The children have also looked at basketball this term, where skills of passing (bounce pass and chest pass) have been focused on.
This term in Art, 4GE have been looking at greek pottery and designs. They used some of these ideas to make vases of their own using paper mache.
Chinese new year - art
As part of chinese new year, the children looked at the meaning and significance of plum blossom trees in chinese culture. They had a go creating some paintings of the trees using ink paint and straws.
Term 2
PE - being an athlete
In term 2, the children have been looking at hockey and the fundamental skills needed. The children worked on their passing skills and correct positioning as a recipient of the ball.
National Poetry day 2024
During poetry day this year, we looked at what poetry is and read different poems as a class. The pupils also got a chance to make poems of their own describing an emotion.
Term 1
In our enquiry this term, 4GE have started exploring different parts of the human body and comparing these with wolves. We have been considering how there are similarities and differences thinking about why these differences are important for the species of animal in relation to Global Goal 15 - Life on Land. Firstly, the children explored the digestive system and how food travels once we have eaten to the point where waste needs to leave the body comparing this to the digestive system of animals such as wolves. The children have also been exploring their teeth. We discovered the different types of teeth and their functions whilst identifying the differences to wolves. This is helping the children understand that based on the type of diet an animal might have, can determine the different types of teeth needed.
In PE, the children have made a fantastic start in both gymnastics and netball.
In gymnastics the children have practising balances and combining these in a short sequence to music. The children were encouraged to consider how they can transition from one balance to another in time with the music.
Whilst in netball the children have been developing passing using chest, bounce and overhead passes whilst also growing in confidence when catching the ball by ensuring their bodies and hands are in the right positions.
