Tag Rugby Tournament - Ashton Gate
Children in year 4 took a trip to the world famous Ashton Gate to take part in a tag rugby tournament. For some, it was their first time playing the sport and this did not show as every child displayed amazing confidence in every match.
Once the day had finished, the team finished undefeated with 5 wins and 1 draw.
South Gloucestershire Championships
Our tag rugby team were in action on Friday 10th March at Cleve RFC. We were aiming to win the title of South Glos champions for the third year in a row.
We played three group games with the top two teams going through to the quarter finals. However, we got off to the worst possible start losing 5-4 to Bromley Heath Juniors. In our next match we defeated Blackhorse 6-4. Our last match was against Cadbury Heath and we won 5-3.
That meant we went into the quarter finals against The Park. In a very tense match we ran out 6-5 winners. So, into the semi-finals we went against Barrs Court. After we let an early lead slip the children kept their composure and won 7-6 with the last play of the game!
Into the final we went against our main tag rugby rivals, Beacon Rise. It was a very even final that after full time was 4-4. Extra time it was, unfortunately for us they started with the ball and managed to score the all important 'golden try'. We lost 5-4, but due to the fact we made it to the final, we have qualified for the South West Summer Games at Bristol Grammar at the end of April.
This is a huge achievement for our children and yet another example of the talent we have at St Stephen's. Well done team!
