Tag Rugby

Aretians RFC annual tournament

A massive well done to the mixed Year 5/6 Tag Rugby team that took part in the annual Aretians RFC  tournament.

We were lucky enough to have enough sporting talent to take two teams with us. We had a 1st team and a development squad. For some of our players, it was the first time they had played Tag Rugby on grass so just taking part was a huge achievement.

The tournament was made up of 20 teams and both our teams began in separate groups. Both teams fought very hard in every game and topped their groups without losing a game. The Quarter Finals were tough with the 1st team coming up against rivals Mangotsfield and the development side playing the tournament's favourite Frampton Cotterell. The 1st team used their pace and composure to win the quarter finals and semi finals comfortably. The development side had the game of the tournament which lasted 17 minutes instead of the normal 8. With a huge crowd watching, they scored a golden try and advanced to the semi finals. It was in the semis that our tired team would lose to Beacon Rise. In the final St Stephen's 1st team came away with the gold with another comfortable win.

St. Stephens are very proud of both teams and are very excited for the future we have in Tag Rugby. Well Done!!!

CSET Come and play tag rugby
Congratulations to our mixed Year 5/6 Tag Rugby team who took part in the CSET come and play rugby event. It is designed to help teach children the rules of tag rugby. We were very pleased with the results and the development of our players. See the results below:

CSET Tag Rugby League Finals

Well done to our Tag Rugby team who, on Monday 16th April, were crowned CSET League Champions 2018.

After four league events throughout the year, the top six teams qualified for the finals night. We scrapped into the final after finishing 6th!

However, the form books were turned upside down with an amazing 6-1 victory against Barrs courts who finished top of the qualifiers. We lost our next match 5-4 to the South Gloucestershire Champions, Bromley Heath. However, we quickly recovered to beat Mangotsfield 6-2, The Park 5-4 and Beacon Rise 5-4.

This is a huge achievement, not just for the players who represented the school on finals night, but also for the children who helped us in the qualifying events. The majority of these children were Year 5's so the future looks very positive indeed!
